Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Does separated spouse in another state have rights to property?

My spouse and I have been separated for 4 years. He lives in Maryland and I in La. We were married in La. Personal property was acquired while married. The debts on those properties are being paid by me in La. Does he still retain half possession of these assets? Because we are still legally married, does anything that I purchase, solely under my name, still half of his? I read a response from several years ago, that someone can file a ''release of community property''. Is this a current law in Louisiana?

Thanks

A property separation can be done. Since you have been living apart for more than six months a divorce is probably easier because you can get a "no fault" divorce without his consent. Consult an attorney as every case is unique.
