Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
served papers while at a court hearing out of my home state
is it possible to get a request for dismissal of service, because i had to travel from my home state of NC to attend a hearing in MD where they served me.I heard you couldn't be served under these circumstances. I have recently moved states and find myself unable to get legal help as north carolina says i have to live there 6 months before they consider me a resident and able to apply for legal aid, while my previous state of maryland tells me i am not a resident there so can not use the legal aid system there either. I need to try and put off the served papers until i can get legal aid , can you tell me if this is possible this way and if so how do i go about it.

If you were served while in MD for a proceeding here in MD, that is valid service. Legal Aid in NC is unlikely to take on a MD case. You might get a MD atty at a reduced fee if you contact the bar association in the county where the suit was filed and inquire about a lawyer referral program on a reduced fee basis. If that particular county lacks such a program, you could check with one of the larger nearby counties.
