Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
I want to shorten my first name from my legal name(the one on my birth certificate) to the name I have been going by since I was born. I have been doing research concerning name changes, however many people are saying that I have to go to court to change it. Is there a way I can avoid going to court or not?

You likely cannot avoid appearing in court, unless you have some type of medical (or other) condition that would excuse you from having to physically attend. I would need more facts about WHY it is you don't want to go to Court before I can give you info that's any more specific.
Best of luck.*******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
