Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

spouse has new child support order but old amount still being garnished

My spouse had a child support order in Virginia that was being garnished from his check each month. When both parties moved to Maryland he requested a modificating since child was no longer in daycare. Even though Maryland decreased the amount, Virginia is still taking out the higher amount. What can he do?

Was a copy of the MD order served on your husband's employer? Since it supercedes the VA order, the employer should start deducting the modified amount. It should also be filed in VA so the child support office there is on notice of it.
