Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
out of state child support (MI)
we have MD child support order. ncp has recently moved out of state to michigan. ncp now refuses to continue to support the child and states she doesn't have to pay anything because no longer in MD. We have contempt hearing in sept. which ncp stated she will not come to. if court enters warrant, does the court usually go out of state to pick up ncp or am I screwed. thanks

Re: out of state child support (MI)
Your ex is of course dead wrong about not having to continue to pay child support because she moved out of MD. But unfortunately if she ignores the show cause order, you'll have to take the MD court order to MI to enforce it. Or if your wife works for a large company, you may be able to garnish her paycheck by presentation of the MD order to the payroll office. You should be able to find an experienced family lawyer in MI to help you with this. If you have to file in MI, be sure to include your legal fees in your papers.
