Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

State Deported my husband do i still have to pay for divorce

The state of Md deported my husband in 1997, i have tried to get a divorce with the help of the legal aid system they failed to explain the full process so after i paid 90.00 plus 30.00 for a sherrif to deliver papers to an address the state knew full well my husband no longer lived at because they deported him. My question is... since i have already paid for this divorce plus some, I have a case number but was given bad advice and instructions can i claim state stupidity or will i have to once agian pay for a divorce my state fouled up? I can not afford a lawyer!

If your case is still open, your legal aid lawyer should be able to reissue a summons for service on your husband. If you don't know his current address, they can file a motion requesting service on him by publishing a newspaper notice. If the case was dismissed, they can file a motion to reopen the case.
