Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Step parent authority

I am moving from New Jersey to Maryland. I have a minor child who I have custody of. I have written notarized documentation from the father indicating that he is well aware of the move.

What I am concerned is how do I legally go about getting permission for my son's stepfather to sign for him medically and at school. If I happen to be out of town, I want his stepfather to be able to act as his parent LEGALLY! What do I do?

Check with school authorities and your son's doctor to see if they will accept a power of attorney from you authorizing your husband to act in your stead in these matters. If so, it's relatively simple; an attorney can prepare such a document. Otherwise, you may have to file a guardianship action on behalf of your husband.
