Subpoena emails

I need emails from an ex employer for a

court case they will not release with out

a subpoena can I do this as a citizen or

do I need a lawyer? If i can do this can

someone step me through the process.

Generally, yes, if you are representing yourself and you are a party to the case then you may subpoena documents. In order to subpoena documents you will need provide the company with a subpoena duces tecum. Most court clerks will have the supoena form which you will need to fill out.
