Temporary Custody of a Niece

I am in MD and my sister has a daughter whom she wants to give me temporary custody of for a little while because she has to have some medical issues taken care of and needs me to take care of my niece. How do we go about getting me custody, what papers need to be filed and where do we file them?

You have to go to the circuit court in your county and file a petition for guardianship. You ought to retain an attorney who knows the requirements to help you.
