Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland
Tired of being yanked around
I was identified as the father of a child, when the other man declined paternity. Since I was with the mother also, I accepted responsibility and have been taking care of this child now for six years. Mother has always used child as a pawn and revokes visitation when she feels provoked. What can I do to establish paternity. What if paternity rules me out as being the father, how can I continue to be in the child's life. What rights do I have? I am tired of being yanked around.

Re: Tired of being yanked around - Paternity
If you have been supporting the child for 6 years, you can file a petition in the Circuit Court for visitation. The Court will order the mother to allow overnight vistation of the child with you. The court will also order child support from you to the mother according to the Maryland Child support guidelines. I suggest before you run to Court you sit down with a knowledgable lawyer (me, for instance) and go over EVERYTHING that could happen if you go to Court.
