Generally the ex-wife will prepare a document called a Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) to be submitted to the judge who handled the divorce. Both parties would sign off on this order before it is submitted. The QDRO must meet the requirements of the pension fund administrator prior to submission as well, so this really must be done by an experienced family lawyer. When the judge signs off on the order, it is filed with the fund administrator, who will then send the payments directly to the ex-wife.
