Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Unjust Enrichment law for unmarried couples

My boyfriend of 23 years sweet talked me out of 160,000.00+ within a couple of years. It started when I received a 300,000.oo settlement and at the time I couldn't have anything in my name, so he sweet talked me into putting it into his account, well then he led me to believe that paying for a newly built house was the best thing for the both of us, (88,000.00), he only put that in his name, then came the garage (15k), then after that,40,000.00 for a tow truck. Then, I got ripped off by on line casino, which they got my money out of his account (42000.00), which he also made me right a letter for him to his bank, so he could get back as much money back, he ended up getting 17k back ( promised back to me, but was not). He is very nasty to me now (abusive), and we have a 16 yr son. When I tell him that I am leaving he says he won't give me nothing back. I would like to know, if he can do that to me, even though I have all the proof that the money was mine and ( copies of checks and bank trans actions ) a big paper trail. What are my rights? I was told that this is called ''Unjust Enrichment''. Please help me.... I nedd to get out of here.......Thank you, Jacki

You could sue him to recover the money, but you'll have to establish that you gave it to him for safekeeping and not with intent to share it with him. Given the nature of your relationship, that may be hard to do. You could claim an interest in the real estate and seek an accounting. If you're splitting up, and your son is going to stay with you, you could petition the court for child support until your son is 18 or finishes high school.
