Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

unwanted mail from attorney at place of work

The father of my baby has filed suit against me for custody, support and visitation. I received these notifications today at my place of employment. I do not want to receive mail at my workplace and I know that it is looked down upon (especially since the sender is an attorney). Does his attorney have the right to continue to send mail to me at my place of work? He does indeed have my home address also. If I request that I cannot receive personal mail at my work address, shouldn't he have to acknowledge this right? Is it a right of mine? And if he doesn't, what is he violating? Thank you.

Re: unwanted mail from attorney at place of work

MD law permits service of court papers wherever a person who is required to be served such papers can be located. The attorney representing the father knows he has a better chance of perfecting service where you work, since he doesn't know exactly when you'll be home to be served or to sign a certified mail receipt. I suggest you contact the attorney and tell him your concern about receiving court papers at work. You and he should be able to work out an understanding that in the future all contacts will be at your residence. But he's not violated any laws in serving you at your place of work.
