Legal Question in Family Law in Maryland

Right to keep a vehicle

I purchased a vehicle, through my wife because at the time she was more established and credit worthiness was better than mine. I paid the down payment as well as made all payments on the vehicle (which I have proof of). Can my wife take the vehicle from my possession and if so is it possible for my to sue her for any reimbursement.

Re: Right to keep a vehicle

Unfortunately, your wife has legal title to the vehicle, due to the way you purchased it. If you are in the midst of a divorce/separation, you can claim equitable title to part of the vehicle by showing that it was purchased with marital funds.

Incidentally, under MD law, the money you used to acquire the vehicle and to pay the note was in all likelihood money you received from your job, and therefore is not "your" money--it's joint between you and your wife.
