Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland
Breach of promise
I have been involved in a relationship for four years. Throughout the majority of this time, this man has made promises of marriage. I should mention that there is a third party involved in this... during one of our breakups, he allowed a woman to move into his home, he has told me both in writing and by mouth that she is only there because she has threatened to destroy him professionally. We are all police officers, so the threat of a domestic abuse case against us can be a matter of our livelihood. With each breakup he has pursued me again, wearing me down with his promises and words of commitment. I recently found out that all he had said to me was untrue. That throughout it all he has misrepresented himself to me and has painted a picture to this other woman orf my pursueing him. I should also mention that he works as a supervisor at the same dept. as I and that this pursuit has been done mostly during his working hours. Do I have a case of Breach of Promise and if I do how would I go about sueing him civilly.
Thank you for response. Any advise would be helpful.

Re: Breach of promise
Maryland does not recognize a cause of action for breach of promise. This means you can't sue your paramour for his unwillingness to marry you. If you think that he has used your relationship with him to adversely impact you on the job, you may have a claim for sexual harassment against him.
