Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Damaged Property

My motorcycle was damaged sitting in the parking lot at my apartments. The damage occurred when a company making upgrades to the apartment complex move the bike from its parking space to make room from one of their trucks. I was not home at the time. When I got home I noticed the bike was moved to a new space and it was damaged. Damage is $1000. I have an estimate. I want the check to come to me. The company that damaged the bike wants to pay the repair shop directly. I would also like to be paid for my time. I have to take off of work to take care of everything. What are my rights.

Re: Damaged Property

You have a right to be compensated directly for the cost of repairs unless you agreed with the repair shop when you took the bike in that they would be paid directly. You are not entitled to "time lost" compensation--that only applies if you are injured and can't work.
