detaining and harrassment

If someone wanted to use you in a civil case but did not want you to testify, how would one go about doing this without the subject knowing? This would relate to either a civil case in Maryland, or possibly interstate

You were too vague about how you expect to be "used", but I assume you would be providing information behind the scenes. If so, the other side could potentially learn about you through the filing of interrogatories or the taking of the deposition of the party with whom you are associated.
