Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

elder caregiver laws

I would like to know if there are any kind of legislative laws, rules, etc. out there to

protect the caregiver of an in-home eldery relative? It is very important that I find

this out since the elderly person refuses any kind of medical attention or assistance

from the caregiver. Thanks.

Your inquiry lacked a lot of information that could affect the answer. For example, you didn't indicate your relationship to the elderly person. There are laws that require an adult child to provide care for an elderly parent in need. Otherwise, there is no legal obligation unless you've agreed to a contractual obligation, which I assume you haven't.

If your concerned for the elderly person's lack of medical attention, you could file a court petition to be appointed as a conservator. If granted, you would have legal authority to make medical decisions for the person.
