Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

*Electrical Serviced Problem*

I called for a free estimate and an electrician arrived late and proceeded to replace the receptacle instead of giving me a description and cost estimate before he started working on the job. He then told me how much this service would cost me. He later charged me a different amount then what he originally said. He also told me to post-date the check so if I had any questions about the invoice I could ask him within that time frame. I called him 5 minutes after he left about the govt discount and he confirmed that I would be able to receive it. Later on, when I confronted him about the money difference, he agreed that the amount wasnt accurate and since they had already cut the check for the discount, he asked if he could owe me for future services. Cause of what he said, I felt that there was no need for me to stop the payment of the check.

Recently I filled to the OCP a complaint and in his response letter he made direct accusation statements against me which was all untrue. He also insulted my character which was very hurtful.

I wanted to pursue getting back my overpayment and for the pain/suffering to my character as a result in dealing with this electric company.

I would appreciate any advice, thank you.

Unless there was a significant amount involved, I'd let OCP try to resolve it for you. You won't be able to hold the electrician responsible for your hurt feelings.
