Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Father suing daughter over gift made

My father gave me $10K from a settlement he received. We had a disagreement in June 2006, and have not spoken since. I recently received a Demand letter stating to repay him the $10K. This money was a gift, not a loan. My father stated to me and my witness that the money was a gift to me. The only document my father has is a deposit slip showing money transferred from his account to mine. What can I do to protect myself from this lawsuit?

Re: Father suing daughter over gift made

He has the burden of proof. It's word against word, but you can defend. You have a witness and yourself who can testify to what happened.
