Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland
My ex filed a peace order against me which was not only consisted of lies, but was done maliciously in order to damage my professional reputation and interfere with some extremely important academic studies (can't divulge specifics in the public forum). I would like to sue for: (1) All attorney's fees (I retained an order to represent me for the civil hearing as well); (2) Defamation & libel; (3) Emotional distress (I can't explain the specific details in this public forum); (4) Loss of wages. The evidence to prove that this was done maliciously and without cause is overwhelming. Thank you in advance.

Defamation cases are difficult to prove, especially the damages element. In addition, unless your ex has significant income or assets, it would be difficult to collect any award you won, and he could always file for bankruptcy if it went that far. I assume that since the filing was so specious, the peace order was denied, so I don't readily see the nexus between it and your work or professional reputation.
