Can a furniture store make you give back merchandise after you purchase it and leave the store with it.

It all depends. If you signed the purchase agreement, the gave you the furniture, and made payment(s) pursuant to that purchase agreement, they would probably be considered in breach of contract if they took the furniture back.
Of course, more information, which includes the furniture store's position and reason(s) for demanding the furniture, may change the answer.
