Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

I was at a bar in Baltimore, dancing with a woman I met there who was choosing to dance with me. Later while talking to her, a young friend of her's (male age 27 or so) came up and was telling her he was going to mess with me. Then he basically told me he was going to "slice my (___)" So, appears ver definitely verbal threat. Is his statement, if witnessed by others, cause for police action against him ?
