Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Libel question.

I recently wrote an article about an online gaming company. The article has both pros and cons, everything in it is 100% true. In the end, I stated that it was my opinion people find another website to play. The owner of the company found it, and is now threatening to sue me for libel. Does he have a case? How should I prepare? Also, he said he's pursuing legal action in Kansas, and I'm in Maryland. Would I have to go there?

Truth is a complete defense in a libel case, and your opinion cannot be the basis of a libel charge. Of course he can file suit, but whether he can do so in KS depends on whether your article has a sufficient connection with that state to warrant it. You would have to provide more facts to get a definitive answer. If he sues you there improperly, you will have to get a KS lawyer to file a motion to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction. He can of course always sue you in MD, but obviously it's better for you to defend here.
