Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Can a person be sued for ruining a graduation party by starting a argument at same, if so would they be liable for the cost of the party, and damages for ruining the grad's big day. The person came to the party and started yelling in the face of the grad's father telling him he is dead to him. The grad an 18 year old girl won 20K in scholarships and is attending a Major University. Aside from being sick to the stomach over hearing the words her dad is dead, ( which brought back memories of the day they thought they lost me when I broke my back as a police officer and they were called to and headed to the hospital not knowing how bad I was injured ) even if only, "virtually dead" it still ruined her mode and made her sick. Not to mention killed the mode of the other party attendees, and didn't give her a chance to tell everyone about her accomplishments. In some ways the guy that did this did it because of her successes, because she received more awards than his son, because his son had recently destroyed his grandmother's summer home, and her, and her brothers and sister have never broken any laws, they don't drink, or smoke and in her uncles eyes they are a bunch of goodie two shoes ( I thank God and their mom, for that ). The party was ruined, to take away her big day because in her uncles eyes, her dad did a better job raising his four kids than her uncle could do raising one son. Regardless of the reason for his actions they ruined her big day a day she had worked her life to make happen. Sh wrote him letter telling him how upset she was with him and his actions, the way he treated her dad etc. and he threatened to have her arrested for writing a threatening letter there were threats just a letter expressing her discussed in his actions
