Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

I play in a small musical group that has performed in a commercial venue, and was paid, during the holidays for the past several years. Last year, one of our musicians had an experience where the chair the venue provided broke and he fell, injuring himself. He received a settlement for this but he is no longer in our group. However, this holiday season the venue won't hire us back. Is this retaliation legal?

Businesses are generally free to engage (or decline to engage) whatever contractors they chose for nearly any reason. Employees are protected from discharge or retaliation for certain injury claims but the post seems to describe a business-to-business contract. The dealings of the parties will generally be detailed in a written contract which might set certain obligations or standards -- without a contractual obligation most of the time a business can retain whomever they want.

While I hope this general information helps it is not intended as legal advice specific to any situation.
