Professional Referrals - Jewelers

Are Jewelers responsible for potential damage to property resulting from a referral to another Jeweler? Example: One Jeweler doesn't appraise, they refer a given customer to another possible jeweler, with no connection. The customer chooses to take item to referenced jeweler. Said jeweler damages item. Because 1st jeweler mentioned 2nd jeweler to customer, would damages be 1st jewelers financial responsibility?

I'm assuming from your question that there is no legal relationship between the two jewelers. Under those circumstances, there is no responsibility on the part of the first jeweler to guarantee the work of the second. Your claim for damages would be solely against the jeweler who actually damaged the item.

If a friend asked you to refer him to a lawyer and you did so and the lawyer subsequently committed malpractice on your friend, would you feel legally responsible for that? The same principal applies here.
