Rumors of Womanizing/Chauvanistic behavior

If people are spreading sexual harrasment rumors (i.e. about how you are a chauvanist and womanizer)about you to others that attend your school through the internet and by word of mouth is it possible to take legal action?

You could sue them for defamation but you would have to prove a lot and most likely the people you are accusing wouldn't be in a position to pay damages, if that's what you're after. Also, your claim would have to prove that they are knowingly making false factual statements, as opposed to simply voicing their opinion about you.

If these people are classmates at your school, perhaps you can get the school administration to take remedial action.
