How much time does a party have in which to file a

lawsuit? When does the statute of limitations expire?

The answer to your question depends on the nature of your lawsuit. The "general" statute of limitations in Maryland is three years--that is, a party must file a lawsuit within three years of the incident which was the cause of the lawsuit. However, different actions have different statutes of limitations--for example, libel and slander have a one year statute of limitations. There are other exceptions as well. So, you should consult with an attorney who can tell you what statute of limitations period you are facing based on the circumstances of your situation.
