time frame to file a lawsuit

after a criminal case has been dismissed how long do you have to file a case against any persons associated with what you belive to be wrong doing

Re: time frame to file a lawsuit

Most suits associated with this kind of case, such as a claim based on false arrest or false imprisonment, must be filed within 3 years of the date of the arrest. If you are claiming you were assaulted, such as by the use of excessive force during an arrest, you only have 1 year to bring the suit. The time starts to run from the time of arrest, not the time the case is dismissed.
