Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Timely trial

Is there a law which ensures that a trial date be set in a timely fashion? What is my recourse if no date has been set? I am the defendant. I seem to recall something about "latches"...

Re: Timely trial

Speedy trial rights apply only in criminal cases. The laches defense applies when a claimant fails to prosectute a claim in a timely fashion, not when the Court has not set a trial date. Your question does not indicate how long the delay has been or what is causing it, so I am unable to offer more assistance. An attorney may be able to help you get a reasonably prompt trial date once all the facts and history are explained to him or her.
