Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

Vindictively charged

I was arrested and charged with: blackmail, was trying to kill or have this person killed because I knew that they had come into a large settlement.

Since my attorney is in the process of proving that I didn't do this, what can I do to regain time lost from work, defamation of character, mental stress, possible blemish on my security clearance, money spent on attorney, etc.?

Re: Vindictively charged

If you can prove your accuser knew the charges were false and acted with malice to hurt you, you can sue them for defamation, false arrest and a variety of related causes. But you also should consider whether your accuser has the ability to pay a sizeable judgment should you be fortunate enough to prevail in a lawsuit which will be expensive to prosecute.
