Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Maryland

I Need Help

I work in home family daycare on Monday Nov.19,2007 a six month infant had to be taken away my ambulance. He awoke from nap not acting his usually self he was crying uncontrollably and he would eat. I called his mother right away when i knew something was wrong with him. After he was admitted to the hosiptal I called around to find out what the problem was nut did not get any answers from the mother. On Wedesnday Nov.21,2007 a detective, CPS and licesning came to the house and informed myself and the owner that the doctor's believed that the infant had be shaken or maybe dropped or something. I was the only person there at the time the awoke from nap so the finger is being pointed at me. A detective and CPS officer came to my home today and I was asked to take a polygraph test to clear me. I need to know what I should do? I did not harm the infant in question and I am afraid that the next time I see the detective I will be in handcuffs. Please if someone can get back to me ASAP I would really apprepriate it I am really afraid.

Re: I Need Help

Polygraph tests can be deceptive because they really measure how you react to questions emotionally rather than whether you are telling the truth or not. This is why they are not admissible as court evidence. While it's distressing not to know if you are facing serious charges, there is no guarantee the police won't charge you even if you pass the polygraph. If the doctors are accusing you of harming the child, chances are you will be charged on that basis. You ought to consult with an experienced criminal attorney before speaking further with the police.
