Legal Question in Insurance Law in Maryland
Health Ins. Co. says we don't owe but Doctor says we do.
My fiancee keeps getting a bill from the hospital from an ER visit in mid 2002. Our Insurance Co. needed additional info from hospital, hospital never complied. Ins. Co. sent us explanation of benefits that says customer responsibility to doctor is $0.00. We sent that to the hospital billing dept at least 7 times and called them at least 5 times. We called the Ins. Co. at least 4 times, they keep saying we don't owe it and they are waiting for the hospital to send the necessary documents. This is getting extremely old. What else can be done to get this rectified? Who can we complain to? Will we end up oweing this to the hospital anyway, even if the Ins. Co. says we don't. Please help us. Thanks,
Mary

Your question is mostly based upon the type of hospital and health or personal injury insurance. The contract of insurance will stipluate coverage and this should be reviewed with an attorney. Depending upon the contract and insurance coverage you may not be liable for the amount claimed. Joe Holthaus (410) 799-9002
