Legal Question in Intellectual Property in Maryland
creativecommons
Dear Sir,
I work for a small self publishing company.
We have published a lecture that we found on archive.org, that the
author gave under the following license:
creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/
Which states that a work can be used EVEN for commercial purposes.
However, after the death of the author, his family changed the license
(which now appears online) and they want to sue us.
We have checked the WayBack Machine of archive.org (A project that
stores old web pages historically) and the old version of that web
page supports our claim.
Please help us to resolve this issue.
All the best,
Menahem

Re: creativecommons
Simply put, you need to hire an attorney who regularly deals with copyright licensing to help you with this issue. Getting you through a copyright infringement and licensing issue like yours is way beyond the purview of this site. Please feel free to call my office to set up a phone appointment if you wish, or there are piles of intellectual property attorneys in Maryland in the areas surrounding DC.
Good luck.

Re: creativecommons
We might be able to help you, but we'd need to know the state/country of the other party. You know US attorneys have to get licensed in a particular state to practice law there, with a few exceptions.
