Calling in sick to work.

Can your employer ask for specifics (symptoms, type of etc.) in your illness and medications you are taking. Isn't this confidential information.

Depending on the type of work, an employer can ask

for information about type of illness (e.g., a health care worker can be asked about communicable diseases) and medication (e.g., a truck driver can be asked if depressant drugs are prescribed).
