Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland
I don't have a criminal background, but recently have been unable to pass a criminal background check. Could moving and getting married be the cause? I got married almost a year ago and moved to a different state. I've changed my last name legally, including on my Social Security Card and my drivers license. Since changing my name, I haven't been able to pass a background check, despite not having a criminal background. This has affected my employment status. Could changing my name affect my ability to pass a background check, and what steps should I take to rectify the situation?

sounds like there is probably someone out there with the same name and similar age and physical description. You should get hold of a criminal background check on your name and see what comes up. If you find someone similar with a "rap sheet", then you're going to have to figure out how to address it.
how is it that you know you didn't pass the criminal background check? Seems to me that most of the time you just don't get the job -- you don't actually know why.
