Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

Upon encouragement from my employer, I joined a professional organization and bought a ticket to it's national convention which was to be located close to our office and my home. The one year membership cost $300 and the event ticket another $300. I submit my expenses and am reimbursed a couple weeks later. 3 months from then i leave the company on good terms for a new job. My former employer then takes it upon themselves to deduct $600 from my final paycheck. Is that legal?

No. It's not. You may consider writing them a letter demanding the $600 back. If they don't give it to you, write another threatening them with legal action. If no response, take them to small claims court. If you lose, you are in the same boat -- nothing lost, nothing gained. Worth a shot. Best of luck.
