Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

Harrrassement/Derogatory remarks by employer

I'm a 61 year old male, and work for a company where the general manager has made several remarks about the way I dress. Not to be petty but he has made remarks about a Hawaiian style shirt I was wearing, and how it made me look like a girl and a friut. This remark plus others along that same line was made in front of others. I find these comments unappropriate and demeaning.I would like to take some type of legal action to stop this negative behaviour.

The first thing you should do is check whether your Company has an anti-harassment policy. If it does, then make a complaint against the GM following the procedures outlined in the policy.

If there is no anti-harassment policy, you need to sit down with a lawyer. Employment cases are very fact-specific, and an attorney needs a lot more information to determine whether you have a valid complaint.

I would be happy to discuss your situation. My Gaithersburg office number is (301) 990-9280, Frederick is (301) 874-0590.

I would suggest that you simply tell the general manger either in person or via memo your sense of the situation, emphasizing that you feel very strongly that his remarks are contributing to a hostile work environment----which at some point might become actionable at law if it continues.

However, I seriously doubt that your yet at that point with the situation as you've described it.
