Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland
I live in Maryland and I just started a job in Virginia. I submitted my documentation for the I9 employment form (drivers license and social security card) but now my company is telling me that they want a passport for a "facility clearance". I told them I do not have an unexpired passport and now they're asking for a birth certificate. I don't have a copy of that either and I don't think I should be required to submit one if I've already given them proof of my identity.
Can I be terminated if I refuse? Would I have any recourse?

Yes, you can be terminated if you refuse. Don't cause trouble with a job you just started. Get a copy of your birth certificate from the County and State where you born.
Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
