The question about the statute of frauds is not if the contract has lasted more than a year but if it is impossible for it to be completed within a year. An example of the latter is an oral contract of employment for two years. Two years cannot be completed in 365 days so it must be in writing; however a contract to support you for the rest of your life in theory does not have to be in writing as a person could die the very next day, well within a year. Even if the statute of frauds does apply you may still have partial relief via the doctrine of part performance. I suggest contacting an attorney to address the specific facts of your situation.
