Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland
I am a preschool teacher for sixteen years last Tuesday I was told by my supervisor that the parent of a two and a half year old student said her son told her I hit him on the shoulder and that never happened. I was sent home told I was on administrative leave without no letter or nothing and still haven't been contacted by employer. What can I do?

Hire an employment law attorney who specializes in education issues immediately. That lawyer can guide you through the proper steps of dealing with the school and school system. When these types of accusations are made by parents or students, it is the school's obligation to put the safety of the child first, regardless of whether that's fair to you or not. As a teacher of 16 years, I'm sure you understand. At the same time, it doesn't mean you can't fight back and try to clear you name. There may be a specific process for doing so, with specific time-lines, so it is important that you act quick.
I would also hire a criminal defense attorney immediately. I don't mean to scare you, but if the parents of the child filed a police report, there's a chance that you may be arrested. You need to do everything you can to prevent and (ultimately) be prepared for this situation by hiring a criminal defense attorney who is already on-board with the facts of your case. Please move quickly.
I understand that hiring two attorneys is not what you want to hear. Attorneys are expensive. What is at stake here, however, is worth the expense: your career, and potentially your freedom in a worse case scenario. Many Maryland law firms practice employment, education, and criminal defense law, so no reason to get 2 attorneys on opposite sides of town.
Best of luck.
