Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland
This is in the state of Maryland: My female friend was fired from her job (2 Months at the job) because the company decided to re-hire an ex-employee. She was informed that since there were two people in that position (her and the rehired ex-employee) they decided to "let her go". The ex-employee (just rehired) is having an affair with the company owner, by the way she is 21 years old. Is this a legal reason to terminate (pardon the expresion) an employee?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Probably not, although it could maybe be argued that the employer was sexually harassing the fired employee because he was setting a workplace standard -- sleep with me and you'll have a job. Don't sleep with me, and you'll be "let go" when business dips. Your friend should consult with a local labor and employment attorney ASAP.
Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.********
