Threat to not release last check
I recently put in my two weeks notice at work. I have one week left and I�ve received a memo stating on it �These things need to be finished before you last check will be released�. Would it be legal for them to not provide me with my last check?

It appears that you are an employee and not a contractor and in this regard it would not be legal for the employer to retain the benefit of your service without paying you.
