Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland
I work for a privately owned restaurant and have not gotten paid in 6 weeks. The owner says she cannot work the computer and has to wait until her sister can do the payroll. I need the money.

The law states "You work, you get paid." Her not being able to work the computer is not a valid excuse. Ask her to write you a check and let her make a notation of the payment in a notebook.
It is incredible that she has to wait for her sister to work the computer to do the payroll. At the same time, as an employee at will, you have to be careful about how you present your demand. Therefore, you have to be tactful.
If she becomes hostile about the matter, simply report her to the Department of Labor. (www.dol.gov). Thereafter, sue the company in small claims court. You may lose your job as a result, but you'll have your money.
