Legal Question in Employment Law in Maryland

I worked for a trucking company, bout month ago. They based pay on these hand-held devices (were broke most of the time). From day one I was told they ripped hours off, so I kept track. When my paycheck for a 65 hr work week was about 10 more than a 34 hour week, I quit and began looking over past checks...figured out what they didn't pay me for, whole days I didn't get paid for, even overpayment on some days! I've called 10 times...they sent me a little portion but have now won't take my phone calls....I'm lost of what to do? They were faxed all paperwork regarding missing hours? Please push me in the right direction!

Violations of wage and hours laws can be handled in one of two ways -- either you can file a complaint with the government and have them investigate or you could sue civilly yourself. The law provides for up to treble damages (that is, three times the amount of withheld wages) if there is no bona fide dispute about your entitlement to the pay.

Since a successful wage and hour suit can require the employer to pay the employee's attorney fees, you have little to lose by consulting with an attorney. Keep in mind that you may lose valuable legal rights with the passage of time.
