Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland
Me and a group of my friends are looking at renting an apartment this summer. Our potential landlord wants us to pay the security deposit by depositing it directly into her bank account (after we sign a lease agreement). Is this a scam? Is there anyway she can make off with our money?

It could be a scam. Review the lease agreement carefully before signing it and make sure you check out the apartment. She needs to give you a receipt (if in MD). Apart from that, all I can tell you is that if she takes off with your money, you can sue her for it. Search online for landlord-tenant law for the state where you will be renting to see if there are any additional requirements for the security deposit. Regards,
