Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland
I was only issued one key when I moved into my 1 bedroom apt, I live by myself but I believe that I should be automatically given 2 keys. My apt complex is telling me that I need to pay $30, for a spare. I know it's only $30 but I have never been anywhere else where a free spare wasn't the norm> My mum is visiting for the holidays and I feel she is not free to do as she likes because the apt will be left unsecured if she leaves. Is there any law that mandates that tenant are subject to a spare key without payment?

No, there is no law mandating two keys. Instead of spending $30 through your apartment complex, why don't you take your key to Lowe's or Home Depot and have them make you a few spares. These will cost only a few dollars each and you can have as many as you want.
