Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

Renting in Maryland and want to break our lease. Talked to the property manager and she stated we would have to give two months written notice and pay a one month penalty. After exhustively reviewing our signed contract it mentions the two month written notice but nothing about paying a penalty of any sort. Can we get out of the lease without paying the penalty since it makes no mention of it in our contract?

If it makes no mention of the penalty in your written lease, you have no legal obligation to pay it. However, I would recommend that you hire an attorney to spend an hour reviewing your lease so that you can be sure before you get confrontational with your landlord. Please let me know if you need assistance.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
