Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Maryland

Hi, my roommate and I moved into an apartment on sept 1st. We were sleeping on the ground for the first 3 weeks. As our contract states with our rental management, the property will be free of pests. For the first two weeks I started receiving large bumps on my arms that itched very much. I thought they were mosquito bites because it is the end of summer. A week later I find a small red bug. And today I find out that my neighbors have all been treated for bed bugs and that that's what I've been bitten by. The rental company is saying that I would have to pay for extermination and that they would not eeimburse me the costs of having to wash all of my clothes as the exterminator requests for me to do. Since they breeched their contract, is that grounds that I can break my lease and receive my double deposit?

I would need to review the lease before I could tell you what your options are. In all likelihood, their breach is NOT grounds to break your lease and receive your deposit back. You would likely have to go to Court and sue the landlord for breach of contract and include the cost of your laundry, cleaning, exterminating, etc. as part of your expenses that you ask the Court to award you. If you would like assistance reviewing your lease and discussion your legal options, please feel free to contact me.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.*******
